The most important thing in the world is family and love

Family photos are a great way to bring your family together, spend time with each other, to really connect with your partner and children.

  1. Let go of your expectations. Children feel this, and they want to please you. But imagine if they were free to roam and play and you smiled, laughed and played with them. You can always bring them back to you with some quiet words, use encouraging words to draw your children in to you. In to a real, relaxed and natural moment.
  2. Clothing – photography is about you, and your connections, but wearing the right clothing can really help bring out your connections. Natural fibres such as textured wool, linens, long flowing dresses, lace, hats, scarves, belts and boots, all bring texture and personality to your photos.
  3. Colors – tank of 3-4 colours for you all to dress in. You don’t need to match, in fact I recommend that you think of “blend and contract” rather than perfectly matching outfits. Your family can choose a range of neutral colour tones eg. neutrals, creams, whites, beiges and browns. Wearing these colours are complimentary to each other without “deliberately matching”. Add some denim overall and some mustard coloured boots for one of the kids, and a thick knit chocolate coloured cardigan for another child and you have a beautifully, naturally textured outfits.
  4. Connections. Dress up, then forget! That’s right, wear the dress, curl your hair, wear beautiful clothes, but once you arrive forget about your outfits, and simply be present! Laugh with your kids, whisper to your partner, tell your children 3 things that you love about their personalities, ask them what makes them laugh…and laugh with them. These are your moments to be captured. No one needs to “smile at the camera”, but laughing and kissing, or cuddling, whatever your childs mood is, embrace it. Your photos will be truly magical when you are together, feeling loved and connected.
  5. Light. Follow the light, sunrise and sunset provide beautiful soft (flattering) light, so take advantage of these times of the day. You might need to keep your little ones up late, past their bedtime…but isn’t that part of the adventure for them! If they’re tired, give them a cuddle….nothing could be more beautiful!
  6. Professional photographer. Find a professional photographer who you are comfortable with. A good photographer will instantly put you at ease, they are there to capture these wonderful moments for you. Embrace your family, relax and be in the moment, enjoy being IN the photos! Once captured, these treasured family moments can bring you a lifetime of happy memories x
